⭐v1a Patch Released!
Haunt the Vault » Devlog
A maintenance patch to fix some of the immediate issues that the game had after the jam release. I have also decided to change a few mechanics based on how they felt now that I've had a bit more of a chance to playtest. In the next update I am planning to add the story elements that I didn't have time for during the game jam, and begin to move the game towards a more roguelike progression structure.
-v1a Changelog-
Gameplay Changes
- Combat now happens when characters bump into each other instead of queuing up an attack action. The highlight that was used to indicate attacks is now shown on the destination tile instead.
- Candles are now drawn from a pool with 2 of each that reshuffles when all are gone. (This will help keep draws more predictable and fully prevents drawing 3 of a kind.)
- "Haunt" no longer applies haste, it now recovers your movement with a range penalty.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed naked Naga animation.
- Updated map generation code to greatly reduce the chance of there not being enough room to place everything. (It's probably impossible now.)
- Map action menu will now fully block mouse clicks as intended.
- Fixed bug where characters could move immediately after a combo was broken.
- Fixed bug where the order of which map entity is pushed into which incorrectly set the separated status
- Goal values will no longer go beyond map requirements.
Quality of Life Changes
- Movement predictions and info are shown when hovering over a character rather than clicking.
- Camera zoom automatically gets set to each map's max zoom out level.
- Increased camera edge pan speed and matched camera drag position to be 1 to 1 with cursor movement.
- Adjusted the camera scroll limit margins.
- Older candles are now used for powers before newer candles.
- Movement predictions now show up even on impassible tiles. (To help with planning if you want to continue repositioning the character).
- Changed tutorial map layout to make it easier to solve regardless of which candles get drawn.
Other Changes
- Removed info about explore targets and tile positions. (They were mainly intended for debug purposes).

looking forward to where this game goes, is there intention to extend the game/story or otherwise?
It was supposed to have a story on launch, but I fumbled my animation approach and ran out of time for the game jam. I intend to add the story in the next update. There will be at least 2 updates this year, after which I'll see if there's interest in seeing more.
